SCHOLARSHIPS

UA Hispanic Alumni Scholarship

Application deadline: December 15, 2006

The University of Arizona Hispanic Alumni Club was formed in 1982 to promote academic excellence among Hispanic students at The University of Arizona. Through the UAHA Scholarship Endowment Program, our organization provides mentoring, networking and financial assistance to students committed to serving the Hispanic community, including students of Hispanic origin.

UA Black Alumni Scholarship

Application deadline: December 16, 2006

UABA was founded in 1982 to promote academic excellence among Black students at the university, provide financial and mentoring support to qualified and deserving students, and develop linkages with alumni and supporters in the professional and business community.

Intel Science Talent Search (STS)

Each year the STS helps the nation find and encourage especially talented high school seniors to pursue careers in science, math, engineering, and medicine. Every year students complete independent research projects and submit entries. Each completed entry consists of a written description of the student's research, plus a lengthy entry form that elicits evidence of student creativity and interest in science. The top prize is a $100,000 scholarship.

Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) Scholarship Page

Recognizing the lack of access to quality education and resources for underserved communities, including the Asian Pacific American (APA) community, OCA is known as a leading organization in administering scholarships for APA students.

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund have partnered to provide scholarship opportunities to students pursuing degrees in the engineering, mathematics, science, and computer science fields. This program is available to high school graduates, community college transfer students, four-year university undergraduates, and graduate students. All students must be enrolled full-time in a degree seeking program in the US or Puerto Rico.

Arizona Professional Chapter of American Indian Science and Engineering Society

The AzPC of AISES scholarships are awarded to American Indians/Alaska Natives attending Arizona schools of higher education pursing degrees in the sciences, engineering, medicine, natural resources, math, and technology. The scholarship program is administered by AzPC and funded primarily by the AzPC of AISES Golf Tournament Fundraiser and scholarship program donations. Information and applications for 2005-2006 will be forthcoming.

Computer Science, Engineering, & Mathematics Scholarship (CSEMS)

The National Science Foundation has provided funds to establish a competitive scholarship program at the University of Arizona. The Computer Science, Engineering & Mathematics Scholarships (CSEMS) program provides financial assistance to talented graduate and undergraduate low-income, ethnic minority, women, and students with disabilities in attaining a bachelor's or graduate degree in computer science, engineering, or mathematics.

UA Engineering Ambassadors Scholarship

This scholarship is for new incoming UA/engineering students. The selection is made by Engineering Ambassadors. To be eligible for this invitation-only scholarship, you must have applied to the University of Arizona and been accepted into the College of Engineering.

National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ)

NAHJ has a number of different scholarships for current high school seniors, college undergraduates and first-year graduate students who are pursuing careers as print, photo, broadcast or online journalists. Each scholarship has different requirements for eligibility. Please carefully review each to determine which ones you qualify for.

ARTS Recognition and Talent Search
National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA/Arts)

The ARTS Recognition and Talent Search is open to students in the area of fine arts: dance, jazz, music, photography, theater, visual arts, voice and writing. If you are selected for the ARTS week, you will be assigned to one of five levels of awards. About 50 students are recommended to the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars. From this group, 20 students will be selected to be Presidential Scholars in the arts. The award is open only to 17- and 18-year-old students. This is not a financial aid program, but a recognition program for students who excel in the arts.

National Hispanic Scholarship Fund
HSF offers a variety of scholarship programs intended to help students afford the college education of their choice by providing financial resources in addition to federal and/or institutional (college-based) financial aid.

SUMMER PROGRAMS

A Summer of Excellence

Five week program designed for high performing students. Students will earn UA college credit and participate in a variety of supplemental activities. Participants are required to live in residence halls.

Astronomy Camp

Students learn about how science and engineering apply to astronomy. Participants develop scientific skills of experimentation and data collection. Space limited to 30. First come, first served.

Summer Engineering Academy (SEA)

Students will learn to design cars using Solid Works CAD and build models with 3-D printing technologies. The program is open to high school students who will enter grades 9, 10, 11 or 12 in the fall of 2005. Students with a strong interest in pursuing a college education that includes mathematics, science and engineering are encouraged to apply.

Summer Institute for Writing & Thinking Across the Curriculum

Each summer, WSIP offers the Summer Institute for Writing and Thinking Across the Curriculum for minority and economically disadvantaged high school students. Students share their writing as a community in small and large groups. Workshops and tutorials are also offered to the students. A graduate seminar is offered to the teachers.
